Sunday February 14th, 2010 – Park Avenue Armory

Yohji Yamamoto showed his Y-3 Fall Winter 2010 Collection and his humor on Valentines day. Love and the relationship were portrayed has a prison sentence. The tees and sweaters had a “prisoner of love” cat and  a “Marriage – Love = Run” message on them . The fun didn’t end there, the splash of colour gave the energy that only a Y-3 show has. The collaboration with Adidas brought new futuristic materials marrying perfectly with Yohji Yamamoto aesthetic. Dressing the room with green lasers, sportwear clothes never felt so modern and luxurious. We saw some transformable wool sweaters or knit dresses for the girls, cashmere tracksuits  taylored coats for the boys and even platform sneakers.

Y-3 has always been about mixing tradition and modernity. In the second part of the show the models appeared with masked striped scarves modern ninjas with Simon & Garfunkel as a runway soundtrack. At the end of the show 10 models came out with multicolored parka capes, at the end of the runway they removed them to unveil again prison stripped inspired tees, as a symbolic message each model gave a rose to a front row guest.
At the end of the show 10 models came out with multicolored parka capes, walked to the end of the runway, and removed them to reveal prison-stripe inspired tees. Before trotting off-scene, each model gave a rose to a front row guest.
The real surprise came during the show’s grand finale when Yohji fought a ‘ ninja’, a scene almost reminiscent of a Tarantino movie. Yohji won beat the male ninja (Jeremy Scott!), but was usurped by the all powerful ninja, Freja Beha Erichsen. Applause ensued as the audience quit the Park Ave. Armory, with the phrase “Yohji never disappoints” being uttered from every single attendee spilling into the street.

As for Yohji’s message to world with his latest collection? No matter how strong you are it’s impossible to fight against love.
