Gucci For Unicef – Special Edition Gucci Sukey Bag
April 26, 2010

After last year’s successful Gucci Snowman to Aid Unicef charity bag campaign, the famed Italian fashion house partnered with UNICEF again, this time offering an all-too-lust-worthy “Sukey” grey shoulder-bag. Looking chic never felt so good, as Gucci sends 25% of the bag’s sale price straight to UNICEF’s “School’s for Africa” program.
The story of the best selling Sukey bag already has its roots in Gucci’s activities in support of UNICEF. On February 6, 2008, Gucci presented a major fundraising event in New York, co-chaired by Gucci’s Creative Director, Frida Giannini. Through ticket sales and a live auction, the event successfully raised US $2.7 million to benefit UNICEF’s “Schools for Africa” program. The winner of the auction lot “Gucci Experience, Milan” received the opportunity to name a Gucci bag and chose the name “Sukey”. It has subsequently gone on to be one of Gucci’s best selling handbags around the world.
Frida Giannini said, “It seemed fitting to dedicate a special edition Sukey bag to our ongoing efforts for UNICEF’s Schools for Africa program since it was christened at our UNICEF fundraising event in 2008.”
The “Gucci for UNICEF” Sukey will be available in Gucci stores in over 20 countries and at Gucci.com from April 15th, 2010 until February 28th, 2011 with a retail price of US$1,295.

Donna’s a fan of baseball!
April 19, 2010

Donna Karan on the field during batting practice before the New York Yankees game on Friday, April 16.
The designer, who’s DKNY brand recently inked a long term sponsorship deal, was scene mingling with friend Alex Rodriguez, Yankees manager Joe Girardi and Joba Chamberlin on the field before the game. AJ Burnett was overheard talking to Donna about the players passion for tattoos and her interest in a Zen lifestyle.
Can we expect to see Donna’s influences at the stadium?
We think a juice bar in the DKNY Lounge would be a nice alternative for baseball fans!

Loomstate Earth Day Celebration
April 15, 2010

Wednesday April 14th, 2010 – Good Units – Hudson Hotel
Its no shock that Earth Day events often attract hipsters in droves, but when eco-friendly Loomstate Organic hosted its event at the Hudson Hotel last night, even the lowest common denominator was an UES-sider-cum-Bleeker-Boho. Purple lighting, dimmed hallways, and graffitied walls tagged with “Good Units” and “Loomstate” logos made the event feel all-the-more ‘underground’. After making a round or two at the open bar (well, five really), I headed to ‘the pit’. 40 drummers surrounded a giant hovering, luminescent pyramid, which beamed projections of horses running across plains and people frolicking in fields (it’s Earth Day, what’d you expect?). Led by drummer Hisham Akira Bharoocha, syncopated melodies gave way to tribal beats, transforming rythymically challenged folks into a dance crazed mob. The beats reverberated across one’s body as the phalanx of drummers pounded, in unson, beat after beat. Toward the end of the concert, Pamela Love was spotted dragging her girlfriend toward the music booth. “Just say Hi!” she said, as they approached the Swedish looking DJ. After a brief conversation and an exchange of hugs, they scurried out giggling, Pamela reassuring her girlfriend, “He looooves you! Told you!”.
Check out Loomstate’s Organics latest collection – at the very least it’ll assuage any guilt about your carbon footprint while still letting you look eco-chic just in time for Spring.

April 5, 2010

Following Kenzo, Castelbajac, and Rykiel, Coca-Cola’s latest fashion mashup has Karl Lagerfeld redesigning the famous beverage’s bottle. Rick Owens Fall Winter 2010 Collection
April 4, 2010
Thursday March 4, 2010 – Palais de Chaillot
Rick Owens is one of the few designer’s whose work is easily recognizable. His unique esthetic has been reinterpreted in many young designer’s collections but none ever come close to the original. For his Fall 2010 collection, Rick presented an army of tribal nuns, “an army in a disciplined way” said the designer backstage. The designer took organic elements and draped it around the woman’s body. We imagine pre-historic lands around these tribal nuns but can just as easily imagine them in a futuristic jungle.
Albeit intended for winter, arms were exposed and hands were covered by lambskin gloves with fur trims. A circular brown rigid belt looked like a piece of wood while a similar black belt resembled sculptured lava. Bicolor tights were paired with the brand’s signature boots, which were declined in open toe leather or crocodile. A knit sweater was incorporated into a metallic asymmetrical jacket while skirts were given texture through layering. Tops were pleated while ‘stitched geometric armor’ was added to reinforce the tribal inspiration. Handsome leather jackets were so desirable that we could overhear the models asking to keep them. Luigi Murenu created a sculptural hairstyle, with hair being pulled back, making it seem like a constant wind was blowing it back. Aaron de Mey’s striking dark eye patches makeup made the models appear as if they were part of a fashionable tribe, one we would love to join.
