For all the colorful collections being shown in Paris this week, you wouldn’t be able to appreciate it without a contrasting point of view. Nicolas Andreas Taralis presented just that for his Spring 2011, wiping the slate clean, and serving in it’s place a richly sexy and dark collection that reflects the designers core aesthetics.

The former Hedi Slimane apprentice returned to his eponymous label after a hiatus of two years at Cerruti, and delivered a collection that bespoke his talents for sharp tailoring and gender bending silhouettes. A bare chested leather vest over short denim shorts  and a tulle skirt paired with a button down shirt had an androgynous warrior-like feel that felt natural on both sexes. Perforated leather-like dresses, salt water treated jackets and Chinese collared top blazers looked both stunning and sexy.  Simple sashes cinched at the waist left the rest of the silhouette to remain free flowing and unrestricted. Meshed tanks and patchwork cargo pants, wedged boots, and acid treated camouflage tops showed a modern take on military-street-chic.

They say a warrior’s heart is only darkened by time and experience, both of which Taralis has under his belt. But for all this collection’s gothic overtones, it’s clear that his heart is in the right place, driven by ambition and a passion for untenable beauty.
