Olivier Theyskens has been given the boot, Peter Copping is now heading Nina Ricci
March 17, 2009 by J.T.
It’s official – Olivier Theyskens is out at Nina Ricci and Peter Copping is replacing him come Spring 2010. While the rumor that Olivier was doing his best not to budge floated around the Paris runway, his former employer and now designer-less fashion house confirmed the ‘mutual separation’ as of March 10.
Now the attention turns to future Ricci designer, Peter Copping, whose name has been floated by far too many journalists to count. StyleRumor was able to confirm that Peter Copping will be replacing Olivier Theyskens at Nina Ricci. Upon talking with our sources, they mentioned:
“Peter is very talented and has already been preparing for his new role at Nina Ricci for quite some time. His impact on Louis Vuitton’s most recent runway show was strongly felt this time, as some journalists overtly mentioned that the F/W09 collection was too inspired from other designers, thus lacking Peter’s touch of creativity. Peter certainly brought a unique creativity to Louis Vuitton that will not be easily mimicked by other designers and he will be sorely missed.”
We’re certainly looking forward to seeing Peter’s work at Nina Ricci, as he works to continue the revival of the reknown fashion house. Olivier Theyskens may not be queuing up at the Fashion unemployment line for long either. We’ve already heard of a couple fashion houses interested in bringing him on board; this while Theyskens contemplates launching his own line.
