For Spring 2011 G-Star left behind the colorful, vibrant blue and yellow cab hues that brightened the Fall 2010 Collection and delivered in its place more subdued, structured, fitted silhouette pieces. Inspired by the desert, we saw sandy beiges mixed with blue and black combinations as well as a few 3D-sculpted raw denim pieces. Distinctive and modern, G-Star’s NY RAW Special Edition combines functionality and 3D design with traditional tailoring and craftsmanship. Straps on tight jackets had a ‘parachutist spirit’ and are accented by the brand’s street denim DNA.
The G-Star Elwood and Arc Pants are an evolution of the men’s and women’s Gobi Pant, combining voluminous 3D leg shapes with enlarged back and front pockets. The natural stiffness of raw, untreated denim is fused with advanced pattern techniques to create rigid 3D shapes, as seen in the women’s’ Austen Skirt and the men’s Duvet Jacket.
We readily enjoy seeing how G-Star reinvents denim in ways that are nothing short of creative and easily wearable.
The front row included actress Liv Tyler and world chess number one Magnus Carlsen, both of whom are featured in G-Star’s upcoming Fall/Winter 2010 ad campaign. Also in attendance at this masterful collection were Alan Cumming, Beth Shak, Byrdie Bell, Chad Hugo, Cheyenne Jackson, Eric Balfour, Jay Manuel, Joe Manganiello, Kelly Osbourne, Kelly Rowland, Liv Tyler, Magnus Carlsen, Matthew Settle, Miss Jay Alexander, Natasha Bedingfield, Omarion, Ryan Leslie, Sean Garrett, Shantel VanSanten, Shontelle, Tinsley Mortimer and Tyson Beckford.
