Tommy Hilfiger Fall Winter 2011 Collection

Sunday February 12th, 2011 – The Theater – Lincoln Center

Back when Studio 54 was a grittier version of today’s Standard “Boom Boom” Room; when walking late-night though the streets SoHo was for the stouthearted and not just the fashionable; when the 70‘s rocker spirit was still in its infancy, a still bourgeoning bohemian chic rose to the level of cultural prominence and would later go on to influence fashion for many years to come. In his Fall 2011 collection, Tommy Hilfiger infused that spirit into his brand’s “prep” DNA, giving rise to the idea of a femininely sleek, rocker girlfriend who likes going off to Sunday brunch.
Hilfiger put out a bevy of ultra-wearable, sophisticated, and youthful looks, with a Tommy twist. Brilliant, subdued use of burgundy make it a hallmark hue for next season’s color palette, and was utilized beautifully in the footwear as well as leather skirts and silk blouses. “Pilot blue”, its complimentary tone, was readily visible in cashmere cable knit sweaters, toggle skirts, and silk shirt-dresses. Herringbone prints were amusingly done in silk chiffon pajama pants but the standout look came by way of a burgundy foulard print silk shirtdress with a button-down yellow and baby blue pinstripe; with its matching cord-belt, this detailed yet frictionless look summarized the entire collection in one cool, calculated, and cohesive passage. Beyond just showing his latest women’s collection, Hilfiger demonstrated that he’s evolved his eponymous line beyond simply doing “prep”; in one swoop, he has clearly steered it toward a future where the Tommy brand will be synonymous with pushing the fashion envelope.
