Human Rights Campaign Teams Up with Marc Jacobs

Monday May 7, 2012 – Washington

The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, teamed up with openly gay designer and longtime activist Marc Jacobs in recognition of LGBT moms and dads. With Mother’s Day coming next sunday, timing couldn’t be better to unveil “Ask Mom/Ask Dad” Little Marc Jacobs T-Shirts to celebrate ALL mothers, including those families with two moms or two dads.

Inspired by Marc Jacobs International President and gay dad Robert Duffy, these innovative and politically forward infant and toddler t-shirts feature a clever re-wording of the familiar saying: “If one parent says no, ask the other.”

In every corner of our nation, there are loving, committed same-sex couples raising children or hoping to do so one day. While a growing number of states provide some form of legal recognition for their relationships – and the associated rights, benefits and protections critical to building safe and strong families – in most places in the United States, lesbian and gay couples are treated as legal strangers, to each other and in many cases to the children they are raising. HRC’s Family Project and the All Children – All Families initiative seek to enhance LGBT cultural competence among child welfare professionals, educate LGBT people about opportunities to become foster or adoptive parents to waiting children and work to achieve full legal protections for LGBT couples and their children.

These infant and toddler t-shirts are available in unisex sizes 6-12M, 12-18M, 2T and 4T. With only 200 produced, the limited-edition collaboration will be sold exclusive at HRC Stores in Provincetown, MA; San Francisco, CA; Palm Springs, CA; Washington, D.C.; online at and in the Little Marc Jacobs store in NYC. Retailing for $35, 100 percent of net proceeds will go toward HRC’s fight for LGBT equality.
