Tuesday July 10, 2012 – Louis Vuitton Fifth Avenue Flagship
The Fifth Avenue flagship store was all decked out in dots today as Louis Vuitton unveiled its latest art-collab project with octogenarian Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. Working with Marc Jacobs, the two longtime friends imbued into iconic pieces and clothes the zany, speckled, circular shapes that made Yayoi world renown. To kickoff the launch of the new collection, Yves Carcelle and the dotty artist rolled out the monogram carpet to the press, inviting them to take a sneak peek at the collection’s ready-to-wear, bags and accessories.
Inside, a bevy of red-bobbed beauties lined the store’s staircase while a miniature Kusama statue towered over a small mountain of trunks. The store’s window display also got the polka-dot treatment, with spotted red tentacles growing out of the ground like magical beanstalks. A lifelike wax figure of Kusama gazing out of the window made a few passerby’s give a double-take. “Love Forever”, a motto Yayoi has often stated she lives by, was pinned to staff members like little merit badges.
Eager pedestrians peering into the festivities were left curious and wanting to see more; luckily for them, the wait shouldn’t be too long.
