Mickey Mouse Sports Balenciaga, Goofy in Balmain

If you think that Barneys New York and Space Mountain have never been uttered in the same sentence, think again. In fact, the Barneys creative team recently spent the day at Disneyland in California, where they did indeed take a spin on Space Mountain—but it was all in the name of fashion.

Some background: In just a few months, Barneys will debut its Electric Holiday campaign, which will feature classic Walt Disney characters strutting down a fantasy Paris runway in the store windows. A bold move, to be sure, but Lady Gaga is a tough act to follow.

Barneys has enlisted some our favorite designers to help, including Alber Elbaz, who designed a one-of-a-kind Lanvin ensemble for Minnie Mouse (goodbye, polka dots). Joining her on the runway are Mickey Mouse in Nicolas Ghesquière for Balenciaga, Goofy in Olivier Rousteing for Balmain, Cruella de Vil inRick Owens, Princess Tiana in Proenza Schouler and Snow White in Peter Copping for Nina Ricci. Keep an eye out for other fashion-world fixtures in the film as well (where they will of course be animated, accessorized and looking fabulous).

The Electric Holiday light show will feature innovative display technology, using Christie® MicroTiles®, from Christie Digital Systems USA, Inc., and Oscar®-winning composer Michael Giacchino is creating an original score of highly charged music. Air France will be supporting the campaign with an integrated promotion.
