Jimmy Choo x Rob Pruitt: Pandas & Pumps, Perfect Pairings

Tuesday October 23, 2012 – 407 Bleecker Street

Tuesday gave us a bit of fashion week deja-vu with two titan design houses hosting events back to back on the same evening. Kicking it off was Jimmy Choo (pun intended) who held an intimate soirée inside their Bleecker street boutique to commemorate their recent work with famed artist Robert Pruitt. Bicolored cocktails with fizzy rock rims, zebra print wedges, pinstriped photo booths and devilishly cute pandas lined the inside of the store. Working alongside Pruitt, the house created a series of adorably playful clutches, keychains, wallets and shoes that toyed with the notions of angelic and devilish pandas.

So why did Pruitt choose the spotted bear of the Far East for his inspiration and not some other magnificent mammal? Well, according to him:

“The panda is this great international symbol that for me suggests that we need to tread lightly in terms of environmental concerns and is the ultimate symbol of adorability.”

To bring the collab to the fore, Choo opted to launch it alongside Cruise season pieces, given that both collections are celebratory and jovial in spirit. To cap off the evening, guests were led to the back where everyone took in a comical cartoon video made by renown artist Jo Radcliffe. Cake-pops and conversations made for a perfect ending to a splendidly lighthearted event. The Jimmy Choo x Robert Pruitt collection hits stores this season so now is as good as ever to get that shiny new panda you wanted for Christmas.
