Seven months after Alexander Wang and H&M announced their collaboration, the capsule collection has finally been unveiled yesterday night at the Armory on the Hudson in New York City. For the occasion the venue has been transformed from an indoor track and field stadium to a fashion arena.
Jessica Chastain, Mary J. Blige, or Dakota Fanning made the trip to support the American designer, while fans of the brand had the opportunity to win an invitation to the show via the Alexander Wang x H&M vending machine at the brand global flagship store at 589 Fifth Avenue & 48th Street in NYC.
“Tonight’s event for the launch of Alexander Wang x H&M was about high energy and a full experience that goes beyond fashion; from the attitude and speed of the show, to the pop-up store in a locker-room setting, and the performances by Missy Elliott and Sharaya J at the after party,” says Alexander Wang.
The show, which was live streamed on hm.com and alexanderwang.com, kicked off with free runners using the show’s set for a parkour performance before models hit the track field style runway.
“Tonight’s celebration truly reflected the theme of the Alexander Wang x H&M collection. It was like being at the ultimate meeting between fashion and sport, and it was perfect to launch it here in New York,” says Margareta van den Bosch, H&M’s Creative Advisor.
After the show the catwalk turned into a dance floor with DJ Jesse Marco, followed with a performance by Sharaya J, Missy Elliott, DJ Diplo kept the party going into the night.
“The collection is hot. It’s fly, it’s edgy, it’s everything. I love it,” says Mary J. Blige.
“I love Alexander. I love how he takes street clothes and turns them into fashion. It’s great how H&M’s collaborations make designer fashion on a scale that people can afford,” says Jessica Chastain.
The collection features sportswear and sleek pieces for men and women, minimalist lines with geometric cutouts and technical materials. Blistered coats , “WANG” branded hoodies, dresses with perforated strips , leggings and cropped tops … lots of appealing pieces that have already conquered everyone, including Rihanna which was spotted wearing a look at New York Fashion Week back in September.
Alexander Wang x H&M will be availabe in H&M stores and on hm.com from November 6, 2014.
