Christopher Bailey, season after season moves away from the traditional codes of Burberry to offer a bolder vision. This approach is coupled by the desire to be ahead of social media, with the new Spring Summer 2016 collection previewed a day before the show on Snapchat.
The line is ro(ck)mantics. The art of mixing styles to reinvent the brand’s DNA by infusing it with a modern edge. while retaining that this british provocative side. The little black lace dress flirts with monastic sandals decorated with a massive chain. The iconic trench permanently loses its original use to offers a feminine lace version. But also, the cloak, the biker jacket, the duffle coat are all strong pieces … Classic coats and functional pieces are mixed with elements of regalia. English lace and floor-length satin dresses with leather biker jackets. The Rucksack, regimental tailoring and The Belt Bag in oblong and square. Capes and weatherproof silks are practical and protective.
The Burberry woman is not single-minded. She gets bolder transparency playing with lace, sometimes with satin. The collection follows the Flower Power that has been see on the Spring-Summer 2016 shows. Printed, embroidered or quietly flourished on lace, flowers are here and there.
Live on the runway, British singer Alison Moyet performed four songs: ‘All Cried Out’, ‘When I Was Your Girl’, ‘Whispering Your Name’ and ‘Only You’. See her performance plus collaborations with emerging and established artists on Apple Music.
