Joseph Altuzarra Spring Summer 2010 Collection
January 19, 2010
Saturday September 12th, 2009 – Milk Studio
French designer Joseph Altuzarra was on everyone’s lips (the most important ones!) during the Fall 2009 Collections and more recently during the Spring Summer 2010 New York Collections. Joseph has started his carreer in Paris working for Givenchy (after interning for Marc Jacobs and free lancing for Proenza Schouler). Back then at Givenchy, he met the fashion house’s International Public Relation manager, Coline Choay. Coline, who had previously worked in New York at Louis Vuitton’s as Public Relations, was convinced by Joseph’s talent and decided to leave Givenchy to become his business partner at Altuzarra. Not long after, the elitist international press welcomed Joseph Altuzarra with open arms. Even Vogue Paris’ Carine Roitfeld wore a one-week old Altuzarra piece during Paris’ 2009 autumn fashion week, barely a week after it was shown in NY.

There is a sort of charisme that emerge from Joseph Altuzarra that we only find in certain type of designers, this impalpable thing that is captivating. For Spring Summer 2010 Altuzarra showed a collection inspired by the 70′s. We see tan suede, pink powder, cream, beige, khaki green, mixed with english embroidery.
Almost all the looks were featuring suede pieces, the construction of the dresses were symetrical but the fabrics added to it weren’t, such as on Magdalena Frackowiak which wore a Khaki Wool dress with asymetrical insets of caned suede, white pleated tulle, white dotted swiss chiffon and San Gallo lace.

The combination of multiple fabrics didn’t appear as a patchwork but as one piece. Joseph didn’t let go his perfect Fall 2009 drapped technique, as seen Vanessa Traina with her Khaki Suede Drapped Skirt. Even the shoes created with Gianvito Rossi have this drapped Altuzarra signature, a declination of braid sandals, braided bottie, with a turn around suede ribbon covering up to the ankle that are predicted to be Spring Summer hottest shoes.

Altuzarra is sold at Colette in Paris, at The Webster in Miami, ikram in Chicago, at Barneys

Jeremy Laing Spring Summer 2010 Collection
January 7, 2010
September 12th, 2009 – Milk Studio
Twenty one line up models, straight head, emotionless, presented the Jeremy Laing Spring Summer 2010 Collection. Jeremy Laing showed geometric, asymetrical lines mixed with patchwork and superspositions .

Some dresses were draped so they were seamless such as the perspective wrap dress and tulle tight.Tight patchwork pants, vanishing point wrap dress in two-point perspective print and fold zip-front vest in perforated suede.

Laing’s color palette for this collection was organic, respecting nature’s codes with cream, charcoal gray, taupe, steel gray, porcelain white, light tan and powder pink. Walled, twisted, folded, wrapped, looped, so many techniques that gave an unique silhouette to the Jeremy Laing 2010 girl.

January 5, 2010
Saturday September 12th, 2009
CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund award finalists Flora Gill and Alexa Adams did not disappoint with their Spring Summer 2010 Collection. The main inspiration for the collection were the graphic lines as clearly shown in the first look, a chalk and black contoured tuxedo suit, graphic crop sweater and chalk lace-up neck piece worn by Karlie Kloss.

Graphic lines that have been inspired by Egyptian reliefs and sculptures. Each look was featured with lace up wedges or lace-up flat sandals made by Cesare Paciotti for Ohne Titel. Declined in black, red and white these shoes are predicted to be one of next summer hottest shoes.

The Egyptian touches were transcribed in the lace-up neck pieces and draped silk reminding of mummy bands. The last four looks featured black feather such as on Karmen Pedaru wearing a chalk feather embroidered drape dress.

Junko Shimada Spring Summer 2010 Collection
November 6, 2009
Tuesday October 6th, 2009 – Halle Freyssinet
There are two types of shows: the ones that are just classic runways and the ones that are staged, to the point that the girls transport you to another universe. This is what happened one season ago with Junko Shimada Fall Winter 2009 Collection. The “mise en scene” pieces were very poetic, even romantic. This season, the Shimada Spring Summer 2010 ‘girl’ took us on a gamut leaping romp through “Angels and Dust“; a universe with big square televisions on the floor and where rainbows aren’t farther away than a woman’s essence. She is a Sensual Rebellious Pocahontas from another planet.

She walks fast, stops, poses in the middle of the runway. Her angelic nature keeps her floating on cloud nine (figuratively and literally). If you were to stare at her face to face, you would see her feet are definitely not on the ground, thanks to the black pantent plexiglass sole pump.

She wears see through dresses, with fringe, tan natural suede mixed with embroidery and beading. She loves precious metals, gold leather leggings, gold mini skirt, gold sleeve pieces, rounded necklaces. In closing the show, she appeared in a succession of black, anise and turquoise printed silk hooded dresses.
