Saturday February 13th, 2010 – Pier 94

In only five years, 26 years old Alexander Wang has become one of the most talked about designer at the New York Fashion Week.

Wang’s show took place for the second season at the “far from Bryant Park” gigantic Pier 94 facing the Hudson River. After having re-interpreted the American Sportwear for its Spring Summer 2010 show, Alexander Wang showed a menswear Wall Street inspired collection and tight to the body tailored clothes. Wang took traditional wall street banker looks deconstructed them to give a dark and sexy line.

It was “about growing up, about progress” Wang said before the show “but it’s the same girl, she is just evolving”.

The jacket men suit becomes a tight beloro, some jacket are sleveless, the smokings are made of velvet covered by Swarovski Crystals. Thick ribbed thigh-high legwarmers are worn over tight pants and covering the shoes . One of the most acclamed accessory was the backpack matching the stripped flannel suit worn by Natalia Vodianova. Suprisingly the most tailored pieces kept this street look for what Alexander Wang is known for.

Alexander Wang has achieved something than no designer done before, which is offering a product that is very avant garde, sought after but at a very attractive price point.

On Saturday February 13th, New Yorkers had the opportunity to watch the Alexander Wang Fall 2010 Show live at Times Square on a giant screen. The show was also live via ShowStudio.com

Alexander wang reports 27 million of dollars for 2009 (12 millions on 2008) and project 40 millions of dollars for the coming year. A NYC Alexander Wang store is set to open in September 2010.

January 29, 2010

Alexander Wang is lauching his first ever ad campaign, not in magazines but in the streets of New York. The ads photographed by Dan Jackson and featuring model Hannah Holman will appear on Monday Feb 1st 2010 downtown Manhattan. The campaign features only the T line, which is Alexander Wang’s core foundation. The designer hired National Promotions & Advertising, the agency responsible for those ubiquitous Apple iPod posters, to blanket the intersections of Third Avenue and 12th Street and Grand and Crosby, as well as random hot spots throughout the East Village and Lower East Side. September 12, 2009 – Pier 94

“American football, jocks, high school & college” were the words Alexander Wang used backstage to describe his inspiration for the Spring Summer 2010 show. Nods to Varsity life were clearly in abundance; even the beauty and hair look boards looked like a sports yearbook.

Reinterpreting classic Sports Americana, Wang’s collection looked as if a few high school cheerleaders traded in their pompoms for their varsity boyfriend’s sports gear.
And yet for all its masculine sports motifs, there was always more than enough feminine hues to make it über-sexy. It was as if Wang took a granite rock concept that is the American male jock, and sculpted a feminine silhouette in its place. Clearly skilled in the art of effortless tailoring, pieces such as classic gray sweatshirts married to corsets and ribbed knee-high athletic socks with cut out backs left one thinking that mens clothing does look sexier on women. And you could easily tell that the front row was pleased with Wang’s execution; one walk from Frankie Rayder in an oversized sweatshirt with pleated leather shoulder pads left many magazine editors itching to get that piece in their Spring editions.

By giving ‘varsity pinup’ an edge that only Alex could, it’s no wonder the world is turning to him for new inspiration. Carine Roitfeld, Julia Restoin Roitfeld, friend Erin Wasson, photographers Terry Richardson, Inez van Lamsweerde, and Vinoodh Matadin could be seen front row, often times smiling but more importantly, attentively gazing, their visages painted in the color few rarely see called “amazement”.

Rihanna Alexander Wang Brenda Chain Bag

August 7, 2009

rihanna-alexander-wang-brenda-chain-bag-1

I was curious to see how this bag would appear in the street after having seen it at the Alexander Spring Summer 2009 Show. It’s sometimes easy to project some runway pieces but I wouldn’t think it would look so cool.

Here is the picture that I took at the show, bad angle because you don’t see the girl but you get the idea.

Alexander Wang introduced bags & shoes for the first time at the spring 2009 show, I really loved the bags. Hopefully the produced bags are identical as you can see comparing both pictures, which is not always the case. Sometimes you see some clothes or accessories on the runway and 6 months later you see that the bag or the accessory has a different shape or texture.

I love this bag’s vintage look, the leather is so smooth. I also like how Rihanna carried it like a smoochy clutch. Visit NET-A-PORTER.COM to see the Alexander Brenda Bag in black.

April 3, 2009

kate-moss-jennifer-lopez-topshop-event

We thought the ultimate evening party was at the Balthazar restaurant followed by the Bungalow, well the hottest party happened yesterday night at The Box,

Topshop opened thursday morning. school girls and fashionistas have been waiting for the store opening since 8 am. Topshop treated their first client like vip’s giving away cheese and bottles of water

“This is it” said Topshop owner Sir Philip Green, upon which he and Kate Moss came out at the top of a box as a gift for photographers.

Were mostly here to see Kate and her new collection confessed a group of girls.

According to Kelly Klein. “These are the clothes we all want to buy right now. It’s cool and young, and cheap.”

Cheap” for Miss Klein but the school girl’s faces became less joyful as soon as they discovered the price tags.

is there any special for the opening, discounts?” asked a girl o a sale assistant, the sales person said “no and we won’t be doing the every 3 weeks price reductions that you see often in other similar retail stores“. Ouch!

The store hosted a succession of celebs one after another: Jennifer Lopez, Steve Wynn, Rosario Dawson, Ron Perelman, Poppy Delevigne, Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Olivia Palermo, Lily Donaldson, June Sarpong, Jason Wu, Jane Wogan, Genevieve Garner, Chloe Green, Debbie Harry carrying a Stephen Sprouse Roses Monogram Louis Vuitton Clutch, Daria Werbowy, Daria, Daphne Guiness, Beth Ostrosky, Bee Shaffer, Alexander Wang, Zoe Kravitz, Veronica Webb, Lorenzo Martone with Marc Jacobs freshly back from their brazilian honeymoon, Marc Anthony, Jennifer Hudson, James Blunt. They were all AMAZED by the store…

After the dinner Jennifer Hudson took the mic for her paid appearance (a rumored $130,000), at the end of the performance she said: “I wish they made bigger shopping bags at Topshop because I want everything!”

Alexander Wang Fall Winter 2009 Collection

Saturday February 14th 2009, 5pm – Roseland Ballroom

The line to enter the Roseland ballroom on 52th street was going all around the street. “which broadway show is the line for” said a women passing by. By the time we’ve got inside we realised that it was going to be a lot of fun, loud late 90’s music, tequila chocolate / tropical topped with Champagne was distributed before the show. Anna Wintour was with her daughter Bee Schaffer, Diane Von Furstenberg came to support Alexander Wang that is CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund’s latest big winner, describing Wang as the most exciting desiner of the moment.

Sarah Jessica Parker was saying that she usually doesn’ come to fashion shows but she loves Alexander Wang’s clothes this is why she is here. Julia Restoin Roitfeld was chatting with Lauren Santo Domingo while Zoe Kravitz and Santogold was posing for photographers.

“This is the type of clothes I love, this is totally me, rock’n roll and confortable” said Erin wasson when asked about Alexander clothes’s Style.

Natasha Polly opened the show wearing a tailored jacket with custom rivet with Michael Jackson’s Thriller on the background. The collection was a succession of 90’s 40 sexy look that everyone will die to get once the collection hit the stores.

We particularly like the wooly demi-cuff cut-out dress with the digital ottoman biker leggings worn by the second model Hannelore, the black metallic croc combat hi-top, the poplin off the shoulder dress, the black oversized leather jacket with saga fox fringe tails, the stretch suede and leather combo cropped leggings, the crystallized Swarovski endless scarf worn by Lily Donaldson, Isabeli Fontana and Trish for the final looks. We overall loved the metal, gunmetal accents on the clothes.

All the looks were perfectly accessorized with beautiful pieces such as the vertebrae earring, desert hats, black velvet combat boots with crystallized swarovski detail, shark cuff and the line of bags made of nappa lambskin leather.

“She wants to have fun, she likes to go out, she is living the time of her life” Said Alexander Wang backstage with Swarovski like sparkling eyes about his girl hitting the runway.
