Louis Vuitton Fall Winter 2010 Collection
March 10, 2010

Wednesday March 10th, 2010 – Cour Carree du Louvre
You would close your eyes, listen to the delicate fountain’s clapotie and then open your eyes to get hit by beauty and feminity. The place, the Cour Caree du Louvre is now the ultimate place where marc Jacobs likes to show his Louis Vuitton collections. This time he decided to have the models walk around the louvre fountain, counter clockwise, to go back in time to the 60’s of “God created a Woman”. “Brigitte Bardot symbolizes the feminity, the sensuality, I just wanted to show beautiful women of all ages” said Jacobs. Laetitia Casta, the closest 2010 Brigitte Bardot version you could ever get opened the show, followed by Coco Rocha, Karolins Kurkova, Catherine Mcneil, Bar Rafaeli, Adriana Lima and the most unexpected Elle Mcpherson, also known as “The Body”. Almost all looks featured a corset either in wool, leather, shetland or pinstripe to accent the curves, without any accessories beside some gloves leaving the feminity play the part. We saw a tweed jacket, sequined cable-knit sweater, a boiled wool pea jacket but the real star of the show was the iconic Louis Vuitton bag: the Speedy bag.
The Speedy has been reinterpreted for the Autumn-Winter 2010-2011. A new flap has been added and top handle. Reincarnated as a doctor’s bag, the monogram has been flocked and sequined, woven in metallic thread, remade in cloque, and in guipure lace over Duchess satin. The Damier patern has been recreated in fox, shaved goat and handpainted crocodile. And in its simplest form, the Speedy has been rendered in waxed calf and reconfigured as a doctor’s bag in grainy, supple calfskin.

Tommy Hilfiger Fall Winter 2010 Collection
February 20, 2010
Thursday February 18th, 2010 – Bryant Park – The Tent
The Tommy Hilfiger Fall Winter 2010 Fashion Show was the last collection shown at the Tents, graciously closing the Bryant Park legacy once and for all. The look for Hilfiger’s latest collection was “Preppy with a Pop”. While each piece is intrinsic to Hilfiger’s brand, they all seemed to have been altered just enough to excite us with something fresh and chic. It was as if the Tommy Boy/Girl left their Ivy League dorms and moved into a Prince Street loft. Tommy’s collection flirts between American glamour and sportswear luxe while redefining classic textures and silhouettes. The Tommy girl of tomorrow wears a modern sleeveless trenchcoat with removable double collar, an oversized wool collar sweater and a romantic puffed tulle skirt.
For its menswear, Hilfiger’s preppy boy look was given a more modern and up-to-date makeover, as we saw with a green cashmere cardigan, navy cashmere blazer and fitted pants. This collection reminded us all that true American luxury still exists and reaffirmed that only Tommy Hilfiger can do it justice.

Alexander Wang Fall Winter 2010 Collection
February 16, 2010
Saturday February 13th, 2010 – Pier 94
In only five years, 26 years old Alexander Wang has become one of the most talked about designer at the New York Fashion Week.
Wang’s show took place for the second season at the “far from Bryant Park” gigantic Pier 94 facing the Hudson River. After having re-interpreted the American Sportwear for its Spring Summer 2010 show, Alexander Wang showed a menswear Wall Street inspired collection and tight to the body tailored clothes. Wang took traditional wall street banker looks deconstructed them to give a dark and sexy line.
It was “about growing up, about progress” Wang said before the show “but it’s the same girl, she is just evolving”.
The jacket men suit becomes a tight beloro, some jacket are sleveless, the smokings are made of velvet covered by Swarovski Crystals. Thick ribbed thigh-high legwarmers are worn over tight pants and covering the shoes . One of the most acclamed accessory was the backpack matching the stripped flannel suit worn by Natalia Vodianova. Suprisingly the most tailored pieces kept this street look for what Alexander Wang is known for.
Alexander Wang has achieved something than no designer done before, which is offering a product that is very avant garde, sought after but at a very attractive price point.
On Saturday February 13th, New Yorkers had the opportunity to watch the Alexander Wang Fall 2010 Show live at Times Square on a giant screen. The show was also live via ShowStudio.com
Alexander wang reports 27 million of dollars for 2009 (12 millions on 2008) and project 40 millions of dollars for the coming year. A NYC Alexander Wang store is set to open in September 2010.

Joseph Altuzarra Spring Summer 2010 Collection
January 19, 2010
Saturday September 12th, 2009 – Milk Studio
French designer Joseph Altuzarra was on everyone’s lips (the most important ones!) during the Fall 2009 Collections and more recently during the Spring Summer 2010 New York Collections. Joseph has started his carreer in Paris working for Givenchy (after interning for Marc Jacobs and free lancing for Proenza Schouler). Back then at Givenchy, he met the fashion house’s International Public Relation manager, Coline Choay. Coline, who had previously worked in New York at Louis Vuitton’s as Public Relations, was convinced by Joseph’s talent and decided to leave Givenchy to become his business partner at Altuzarra. Not long after, the elitist international press welcomed Joseph Altuzarra with open arms. Even Vogue Paris’ Carine Roitfeld wore a one-week old Altuzarra piece during Paris’ 2009 autumn fashion week, barely a week after it was shown in NY.

There is a sort of charisme that emerge from Joseph Altuzarra that we only find in certain type of designers, this impalpable thing that is captivating. For Spring Summer 2010 Altuzarra showed a collection inspired by the 70’s. We see tan suede, pink powder, cream, beige, khaki green, mixed with english embroidery.
Almost all the looks were featuring suede pieces, the construction of the dresses were symetrical but the fabrics added to it weren’t, such as on Magdalena Frackowiak which wore a Khaki Wool dress with asymetrical insets of caned suede, white pleated tulle, white dotted swiss chiffon and San Gallo lace.

The combination of multiple fabrics didn’t appear as a patchwork but as one piece. Joseph didn’t let go his perfect Fall 2009 drapped technique, as seen Vanessa Traina with her Khaki Suede Drapped Skirt. Even the shoes created with Gianvito Rossi have this drapped Altuzarra signature, a declination of braid sandals, braided bottie, with a turn around suede ribbon covering up to the ankle that are predicted to be Spring Summer hottest shoes.

Tommy Hilfiger Spring Summer 2010 Collection
September 26, 2009

Thursday September 17th, 2009 – The Tent at Bryant Park
For the Spring Summer 2010 collection, Tommy Hilfiger re-imagines the relaxed glamour of a southern California boardwalk. Dreamt up for a lifestyle that is as chic as it is casual. The clothes are unpretentious but Captivating. Structured meet flow as materialks like canvas, twill and leather coexist with featherweight jerseys and silks; loose pants are paired with tailored jacket with a bit of a strong shoulder; and shorts are mixed with billowy tops.

The women’s collection is a palette comprising neutrals and distinct shades of blue, from azure to a tantalizing swimming pool. The colors of sunset-pops of carmine, pink and peach. Also appear amid an assortment of nautical stripped pieces. Breezy jodhpurs and crisp pocket shorts. For evening, nonchalant sophistication reigns with long, simple cotton dresses perfectly accented with rope sandals and metallic details. Accessories, from nostalgic macrame and clip-link belts, classic desert boots with a toe cut-out and colorful green and white sunglasses to full-cut bandeaux and maillots for swimwear, suggest the playful sexiness inherent to the beach.

Sharing the same roots and palette as the women’s collectionis the men’s line. A dashing pastiche of liberated silhouettes with bright colors. Pants are fuller and shirts are more open. In a departure from traditional preppy rules, where shorts are worn with loafers and a polo, shorts are shown with boots and a sweater. Workwear comes in interesting twills, traditional shirts and elegant single and double-breasted suits. A lighter sensibility comes into play as well with knit stripped ties.

Alexander Wang Spring Summer 2010 Collection
September 23, 2009
September 12, 2009 – Pier 94
“American football, jocks, high school & college” were the words Alexander Wang used backstage to describe his inspiration for the Spring Summer 2010 show. Nods to Varsity life were clearly in abundance; even the beauty and hair look boards looked like a sports yearbook.

Reinterpreting classic Sports Americana, Wang’s collection looked as if a few high school cheerleaders traded in their pompoms for their varsity boyfriend’s sports gear.
And yet for all its masculine sports motifs, there was always more than enough feminine hues to make it über-sexy. It was as if Wang took a granite rock concept that is the American male jock, and sculpted a feminine silhouette in its place. Clearly skilled in the art of effortless tailoring, pieces such as classic gray sweatshirts married to corsets and ribbed knee-high athletic socks with cut out backs left one thinking that mens clothing does look sexier on women. And you could easily tell that the front row was pleased with Wang’s execution; one walk from Frankie Rayder in an oversized sweatshirt with pleated leather shoulder pads left many magazine editors itching to get that piece in their Spring editions.

By giving ‘varsity pinup’ an edge that only Alex could, it’s no wonder the world is turning to him for new inspiration. Carine Roitfeld, Julia Restoin Roitfeld, friend Erin Wasson, photographers Terry Richardson, Inez van Lamsweerde, and Vinoodh Matadin could be seen front row, often times smiling but more importantly, attentively gazing, their visages painted in the color few rarely see called “amazement”.
