Esteban Cortazar To Leave Ungaro?
June 5, 2009

WWD reveals that according to sources, the French fashion house plans to let go creative director Esteban Cortazar. Conflicts might have happened between the designer and the marketing and adverstising direction.
We learned a couple of days ago that Ungaro wanted to hire Lindsay Lohan as a creative consultant for the brand. Mounir Moufarrige, Ungaro’s chief executive officer, is said to be insisting to get a celebrity has the new Ungaro face for the fall 09 in order to get ore attention. It has been confirmed that Lohan is indeed a candidate but not in the design team.
Ungaro has not done a campaign to promote the women’s ready to wear for years. For a brand a campaign is a way to get more exposure, not only as ad in a magazine but also in editorial as fashion editor would rather pick up clothes from an advertiser than from a brand not advertising in the magazine.
Moufarrige is a character and is known for having taken some surprising decisions in the past such as replacing Karl Lagerfeld with Stella McCartney as the designer of Chloe in 1997.
It’s Esteban Cortazar third season and each season has been very well received.
