Karl Lagerfeld Spring Summer 2010 Collection
November 5, 2009
Sunday October 4, 2009 – Espace Ephemere Tuileries – Jardins Des Tuileries
Karl Lagerfeld jumping playing guitar was featured on the Spring Summer 2010 show invitation, a Calligraphy based on Karl’s Numero 10 Homme Magazine cover. Was the show going to be music oriented? The set was made of stacks of white and light grey amps, all featuring either “Karl”, “Lagerfeld” or sometimes both. “The set is important, it reflects the mood of the show” said the designer backstage. There is always “a fil conducteur” in Karl’s collection from the first look to the last one. The show started with a succession of black, black and white looks with a pair of pleated shorts. Some of the outfits were featuring music silver deeped accessories such as on Karlie Kloss a Karl Lagerfeld jumping mondino caligraphie as a brooch. A silver guitar to close a bollero jacket, an army of Guitars on belts and Karl jumping featured again on an oversized clutch.
Repetto is collaborating again with Karl Lagerfeld for the Spring Summer 2010 collection, high heels and flats went on and off during the show, most of them were silver, black metallic or had a silver detail. Zippers, trompe l’oeil proportions, Karl signature’s high colar and even two jackets whose hem were folded up to the underarm.
The final part of the show featured structured dresses with what we thought at first were metallic overlapping silver designs, in fact the silver part is made of leather. A zippered mini dress with puffy short sleeve and silver leather overlapping work on Anja Rubik. Sharp lines, geometric angles, and new proportions with the high-waist shorts. A collection that reflects the designer personal dressing code translated for his Spring Summer 2010 girl.

Chanel Easy Rider Hits The Rue Royale
July 20, 2009
Last friday Karl Lagerfeld decided that the Rue Royale will be the decor of the Starting Point Pre-Printemps 2010 Collection Press kit. Anyone passing by the Chanel boutique on Rue Royale could have seen Lara Stone and Baptiste Giacobini cavorting around an eye-popping prop: A motorcycle customized for Chanel in Toulouse, France, and reminiscent of the low rider Marlon Brando piloted in “The Wild Ones.”
Chanel Paris Venice Cruise 2010 Collection
May 18, 2009

Backstage at Chanel Paris Venice Cruise 2010 Collection
5 years ago Karl Lagerfeld decided to take the Chanel Pre-Collections to another level by showing these collections the way it deserved to be shown. The idea was to give the collections a ‘travel spirit’, beginning with Paris Tokyo for the Pre-Fall 2005 collection.
After showing past Cruise collections in New York’s Grand Central Station, Santa Monica, and Miami from 2006-09 respectively, Karl transported us to Venice to discover more than just a collection.
On May 15th, 2009, Karl brought the house of Chanel to Venice to present its Cruise 2010 collection at the venerable and exclusive Lido beach Hotel Excelsior. Karl is not shy to draw inspiratation from Venetian and Baroque styles, as was seen in past seasons such as the Haute Couture F/W ‘90 and ‘93 collections.
More importantly, Venice was an inspiration for Gabrielle Chanel, whom in love with all that this unique city has to offer: museums, somptuous churches. She was particularly seduced by the Byzantine gold adorning Saint Mark’s Basilica.

Gabrielle Chanel at Lido Beach in 1936
Characterizing the city’s essence and infusing it into Chanel elegance, Karl Lagerfeld truly delivered on a promise of a Paris meets Venice collection. Venetian masquearde masks modernized with a pair of Chanel sunglasses, while Carnaval harlequin prints and ‘voile‘ lions printed dresses. The lion the symbol of Venice and Mademoiselle’s birth sign. The Lion of Saint Mark is the emblem and the protector of Venice. Lions are everywhere in the cientrance to the Arsenal, on the Porta della Carta.
Looking at this collection, one cannot help but feel that this Paris-Venice show continued a conversation that Karl started with the Paris Moscou Fall 08/09 Collection . It’s as if thought Karl Lagerfeld wanted to share more of Gabrielle Chanel’s history to make us better understand her inspiration and her choices.

We have the same impression watching this new collection inspired by Gabrielle Chanel’s travels in the 30’s. Lagerfeld’s collection recalls Visconti’s stylised films and Venice’s sparkling society of the 1930s. Fabrics were inspired by the rich Venetian reds of the Renaissance, Fortuny’s prints, and the chiaroscuro technique of the great Italian masters.
A “Who’s Who” of international press made it to the event, such as French Vogue’s Carine Roitfeld and Emmanuelle Alt, Vogue Italia’s Franca Sozzani, Jefferson Hack and Model Anouck Lepere among others.
Venetians such as the Countess Brandino Brandolini and the Count and Countess Luca Marzotto were also Karl Lagerfeld’s guests.
Celebrities such as Rinko Kikuchi, Vittoria Puccini, Olivia Magnani, Caroline Sieber, Kasia Smutniak also trekked out to see the collection on the cool Venetian sands.

Parisian socialites descended upon the Galleries Lafayettes soirée last night for an exclusive glimpse of the 50th Anniversary Barbie collection now on display. The event took place at the “bar a Bulles“. Amongst the sea of chatter and the clic-clack of champagne glasses, Barbie-aficionados discussed the presentation in intricate detail. The energy of the conversations seemed to pick even more volume as party-goers were treat to doll-size hors d’oeuvres, Strawberry Tagada and Marshmallows that filled the numerous Veuve-Cliquot baskets.

attendees jubilantly smiled as they rediscovered their cherished childhood friend. This time, everyone’s favorite poupette was wearing the top designer frocks fresh from this year’s runway shows.
With ready-to-wear and accessories that rivaled even the best fashionista’s closet, Barbie mesmerized everyone with her exquisite designer looks from Diane Von Furstenberg , AF Vandervorst, Karl Lagerfeld, Lutz, Carven, Junko Shimada, Emilio Pucci, Zucca, Lesage, Catherine Malandrino, Emanuel Ungaro, Cacharel, Gerard Darel, Marc Le Bihan, Maison Martin Margiela, Popy Moreni, Giambattista Valli and more.
The Diane Von Furstenberg Doll was on the go with her passport (She is a Nomade just like at the DVF Fall Winter fall 09 Show!) with new DVF glasses and a bag saying “Proud To Be a Woman”! We love Diane!

The Giambattista Villa Barbie was wearing a dress that we would see any girl with, we also liked the Malandrino one: the most american french Barbie.

Lutz Barbie was wearing our favorite look from Lutz Fall Winter 2009, The Karl Lagerfeld’s Barbie’s had the Cabaret Repetto shoes but no fur helmet . The Castelbajac’s Barbie looked a bit too Martin Margiela inspired while the Ungaro Exteban Cortazar’s Barbie was all the way Emanuel Ungaro Fall Winter 2009.
Ebulliently envious of Barbie’s newfound modern style, revelers were simply left wishing to be a couple feet shorter and few waist sizes smaller.

Chanel Sponsors Royal Costume Show at Versailles
March 31, 2009

Karl Lagerfeld in Versailles - Chanel Sponsors Le Bal Des Siecles
This a premiere in France, Versailles is hosting for the first time in more than two centuries, the most sumptuously dressed court of Europe.
Chanel sponsors the exhibition.
“Fastes de Cour & Cérémonies Royales” (“Court Pomp & Royal Ceremony”) retraces European court costumes from 1650 to 1800 and opens to the public today. The exhibition, which runs through June 28.
In his foreword to the exhibition catalogue, Karl Lagerfeld notes that even the French court, “the most brilliant and imitated in the world,” went into debt to retain universal admiration. “Nothing was too beautiful, or too expensive,” the designer points out.
You will not see any wardrobes from Queen Marie Antoinette neither from Kings Louis XIV, XV and XVI. We believe that all the wardrobe left has been maybe destroyed when the revolution took over in 1789.
The influence of the French monarchy expanded in Europe, Germany, Russia, Vienna, Denmark and Sweden were able to keep their royal attire, furniture and accoutrements.
The pieces will be displayed alongside official portraits of their original owners and drawings. It is also the first time pieces of crown jewelry have been included in an exhibition of court costume, the better to illustrate the luster of the court of Versailles. We have no information on yes or no the jewelry displayed will be the original or duplicate.

Lagerfeld Confirms: He is Still Doing It
March 26, 2009

Despite all the rumors after seing the recent cutbacks and also the Paris-Moscou Show being held in Paris and not in Moscow. Chanel is still going ahead with that Cruise show in Venice that has been rumored since last June. Will it be on one of the Venise Castle? on a boat? According to a IMG Fashion Representative, it will be less expensive to held the show in Venise than in any other spaces in Paris, even with the cost of flewing his crew. Karl Lagerfeld recently bought a house on Lake Champlain in Vemont because it was cheaper to do the photoshoot buying the house than doing it in studio. Chanel already presented on the Seine in Paris for their Cruise 1997 collection.
