Ralph Lauren design for the men but it go further than designing a men’s collection. It’s in fact three collections that define the Ralph Lauren man, Polo Ralph Lauren, Purple Label and the Black Label.

Purple Label, the most luxurious of the collections, classic tailoring was shown in navy, sweaters in tropical colors, and retro-modern geometric patterns.

“Purple Label is for a glamorous guy, not a trendy guy who changes silhouettes when a magazine tells him to,” said Ralph Lauren. “It’s about confidence and individuality. It’s a chic, custom-tailored guy who has money and style and a sense of individuality.”

The Black Label shows a modern men with westernwear details, including yokes, snaps and leather piping.

“The Black Label sportswear concept has always been functionality. It’s utility made sexy,” said Lauren. Modernity comes via high-tech fabrics, sheeny leathers and functional details that hint at high speeds and expensive machines.

The Polo by Ralph Lauren collection will offer for next summer tweedy fabrics that are rendered light while Houndstooth plaids are intertwined with pastel windowpane checks for a subtly playful effect.

Polo sportswear is comprised of three groups. The first features a mix of vintage athletic-wear (evocative of Ralph Lauren’s Olympic uniforms for Team USA), washed white linens and cricket-player motifs. Rounded club collars make a comeback on the shirts.

Matthew Williamson said he aimed to translate his women’s aesthetic for men.

The collection tells the story of an English gentleman who travels to Cuba for vacation and returns via the Greek islands.

The collection includes some English suits, some English schoolboy, some punk. Then you have Cuban cotton shirts and boardshorts, with highly decorative printed fabrics, and then beachwear, like someone would wear on a Mediterranean high-summer holiday.

The first delivery of Williamson’s women’s wear launched at select H&M stores on April 23. It expands to 1,600 stores on Thursday, along with the debut of men’s.

“The intention is not an immediate sellout, but to be present through the season so more people will be able to access it,” he said.
