Paris Fashion Moving Into The MeatPacking District?
April 7, 2009

The Meatpacking District May Be The New Home Of Parisian Fashion
There’s been murmurs of several top fashion house designers planning to make the bold leap across the pond, leaving the old Rive Droite for the more chic, “underground” Meatpacking district. Money not being what it used to be in the old days (i.e. in people’s pockets) designers are looking to cut costs and consolidate their resources to best serve their clients.

Posthumous Dedications to Stephen Sprouse Are Timeless
So why make the jump across the Atlantic? Simply put, New York has always inspired its citizen designers to hone their skills and innovate the best fashion, even when everything seems to be going downhill. From the 1980’sKoch high-crime years giving rise to L.E.S. stars Stephen Sprouse and Marc Jacobs, to the late 1970-80’s giving naissance to some of the best Halston pieces ever known. It seems that when the going gets tough, NY designers manage to deliver bolder collections, often immortalizing their brand. It’s with that in mind that we turn to the latest rumors of Parisian designers defecting to the Big Apple.

Stella McCartney Honored By NRDC
Whilst at the Forces For Nature benefit, honoree Stella McCartney spoke candidly with reporters on the red-carpet about bringing her runway shows to NY Fashion Week. Could this be an opportunity to seduce a wider U.S. audience with eco-friendly high-fashion pieces or a plot to plant trees in the increasingly common empty shops lining Madison Ave.? We certainly hope it’s the former because she may not have enough tress for the latter.

Olivier Theyskens Honeymooning with Halston?
And as if having Her Royal McCartney-ness in our fair city was not enough, we hear that another great designer may be soon be hoisting moving boxes onto NY-bound Moishe Moving trucks.
The latest rumors being murmured by industry insiders is that the venerable Olivier Theyskens is in “advanced” talks to take over Halston come this summer ‘09. If true, this would mark only the second greatest comeback for a fashion icon, following Nina Garcia’s move to Marie Claire. Besides being Ms. Wintour’s favorite number 2 (after Roger Federer), Olivier may live up to be beyond everyone’s expectations, reviving the designer-less brand and elevating past its French peers. Who knows, Olivier may take Halston into a brand new creative direction. Effortless goth-chic dresses anyone?
If all these rumors pan out to be true, the extra space at the Damrosch will certainly be put to good use.
Olivier Theyskens has been given the boot, Peter Copping is now heading Nina Ricci
March 17, 2009

Olivier Theyskens fired from Nina Ricci
It’s official – Olivier Theyskens is out at Nina Ricci and Peter Copping is replacing him come Spring 2010. While the rumor that Olivier was doing his best not to budge floated around the Paris runway, his former employer and now designer-less fashion house confirmed the ‘mutual separation’ as of March 10.
Now the attention turns to future Ricci designer, Peter Copping, whose name has been floated by far too many journalists to count. StyleRumor was able to confirm that Peter Copping will be replacing Olivier Theyskens at Nina Ricci. Upon talking with our sources, they mentioned:
“Peter is very talented and has already been preparing for his new role at Nina Ricci for quite some time. His impact on Louis Vuitton’s most recent runway show was strongly felt this time, as some journalists overtly mentioned that the F/W09 collection was too inspired from other designers, thus lacking Peter’s touch of creativity. Peter certainly brought a unique creativity to Louis Vuitton that will not be easily mimicked by other designers and he will be sorely missed.”

Peter Copping, former Senior Designer at Louis Vuitton, is now heading Nina Ricci
We’re certainly looking forward to seeing Peter’s work at Nina Ricci, as he works to continue the revival of the reknown fashion house. Olivier Theyskens may not be queuing up at the Fashion unemployment line for long either. We’ve already heard of a couple fashion houses interested in bringing him on board; this while Theyskens contemplates launching his own line.
Carine Roitfeld Denies Rumors of Vogue USA Takeover, Reminds World She’s The Most Lovable French Person Ever
March 16, 2009

Carine Roitfeld poses for Hedi Slimane
Coveting her current job and fearing the wrath of La Wintouress, Carine Roitfeld downplayed the revived rumors of her taking over VOGUE USA in an interview with CNN International. The interview is set to air this Wednesday at 8:30AM GMT (or about breakfast for Anna, given that she starts her day around 3AM EST).
Besides putting the kibosh on the ongoing rumors, she gleefully reminds the world that Paris is still the fashion capital and Vogue Paris is its Maison Blanche. And in true coquette esprit, Carine blissfully mentions:
“I’m very happy at French Vogue to be able to do everything — almost everything — I want in the magazine,” she said. “It would be too political at American Vogue for me. And I’m not sure I’m talking enough good English to work there.”
While VOGUE USA caters to a much larger audience, Vogue Paris still remains France’s most highly circulated fashion magazine. And while France’s population is comparable to California, Carine has successfully transformed the venerable magazine into a provocative fashion media empire that is stretching beyond the affluent and gaining a younger, more diverse audience.

And what’s driving that success? Simply put: Carine’s sweet charm. Ask any PR rep at a major Paris fashion house who’s ever worked with Carine and they’ll tell you she’s probably the sweetest editor to ever to grace their showrooms. In fact, she’s usually the nicest person in the entire office, which is saying a lot in French society. It’s also that same gentillesse and joie de vie that has been successfully translated onto the pages of the magazine.
However, no sooner upon highlighting Carine’s personable qualities, the piece targets A-Dubs, with the reporter referring to her as being “old”.
“Wintour has yet to announce any plans to retire but her advancing age — she’s 60 this year — has stoked speculation that after more than 20 years in the role it might be time to leave.”
It’s now being reported that following the taping of the interview, the CNN reporter was whisked offset and admitted into the Witness Fashion Protection Program.

Yves Saint Laurent Fall Winter 2009 Collection
March 10, 2009

Monday March 9th, 2009 – Palais De Tokyo
“Calme, Luxe and Volupte” these three words can describe the Yves Saint Laurent Fall Winter 2009 Show at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.
As soon as I arrived I noticed that it won’t be the overcrowded usual runway, the show took place on the first floor of the main entrance of the Palais de Tokyo featuring a giant YSL sign. Giant mirrors were placed in each corner of the square space. I see Catherine Deneuve, Loulou De la Falaise along with Betty Catroux, all YSL’s muses are here.
See Our Video Below:
Claudia Schiffer chatting with Mario Testino and Patrick Demarchelier. Carine Roitfeld was filming the last part of her CNN Revealed documentary, Kanye West with Amber Rose posing while Rachel Zoe confessed it was her first YSL show.

The collection started with Alice Coltrane Turiya and Ramakrishna’s composition in the background.
The make up is diaphane, veloute, red lipstick. The hair is silky pulled up in chignon wrapped in leather, Yves Saint Laurent’s spirit is along us.
The first look was presented by Alla Kostromicheva wearing a leather trench with a perfecto stucture, after a couple of looks I saw that all the YSL’s code have been perfectly re-interpreted by Sefano Pilati. Black leather, gray flannel, white blouse and mutliple variations of Le Smoking.
Long Smoking vest as a dress, Smoking Pantacourt suit, one piece Smoking suit … the skirts and the pants are high waist with a rounded top. Black leather gloves topped by black bangles.

Caroline Trentini was YSL’s exclusive for this Paris Fashion Week and she blow everyone away wearing a black leather one piece zippered body suit, if there was be a Parisian Wonder Woman it would be her.

The jackets have expanded unpaded shoulders.

The collection was a succession of YSL references all wearable all simple, all desirable.

Barbara Bui Fall Winter 2009 Collection
March 10, 2009
March 10, 2009
Barbara Bui worked a hardcore rock ’n’ roll vibe for fall — a little Jim Morrison, a lot of Los Angeles new age glam — with everything from metallic python pants and leather jackets that had zippered breakaway hems to studded cowboy boots and bags galore. With an underground biker vibe, sans the pretentiousness associated with the genre, the overall effect was thrilling and palatable.
Jeremy Scott Fall Winter 2009 Collection
March 10, 2009
March 10, 2009
Always a Paris favourite for its light-hearted approach to fashion, Jeremy Scott’s irreverent collection was inspired by a famous Disney rodent. A white coat crafted from Mickey Mouse gloves and a poufy printed bustier dress were stand-out highlights. When the attention wasn’t solely on the collection’s pieces, they were on the front row, which saw the likes of Peaches Geldof and Cory Kennedy eyeing pieces they would love to take home that day.
