Chloe Spring Summer 2011 Collection

Monday October 4th, 2010 – Jardins des Tuileries

Flats, tulle, organza and sheer are all at home in a theatre ballet, but Hannah MacGibbon’s play on Chloé youthful roots brought forth a Spring Summer  2011 collection that is as much reliving one’s childhood ballerina fantasy as it is sharply sophisticated.
A palette of neutrals in nude, ivory, black, nutmeg, toffee tones, with an occasional pop of red and gold here and there, served well to balance a collection whose simplistic silhouettes masks the detailed precision-tailoring. A light, cream-colored tulle tutu, cinched at the waist with a metallic ‘ton-sur-ton’ belt, was fastened whimsically over a pair of?matte shorts and a long sleeved poplin top, giving the model an almostairy feel as she strutted the catwalk. On the other side of the color spectrum, a black leather top set under an earthy, red-tone crêpe de chine coat with metal accents offered a beautiful transition mid-show. It goes without saying that pleats will be Paris’ biggest contribution to Spring fashion come next year. Here, Hannah makes careful use of the technique to draw attention to a woman’s most sensual assets, as we saw with Freja’s white cross-shouldered knife-pleated jersey top and Anabela Belikova’s over-the-knee, taupe pleated chiffon skirt. Some of the more sensual pieces are ironically those that used masculine textures and silhouettes. Karmen Pedaru’s slit-cleavaged coffee jersey top paired with cinnamon trousers and Kinga Rajzak’s crisp, white Nehru-collared shirt showed that the balance between the two sexes can be visually arousing.
Lace-top flats in shades of white and black along with beige and white ankle-strapped single-toe thongs gave the feeling that the Chloé girl could step off the city sidewalk and onto a powdery white beach sand at the drop of a dime.

Small calfskin leather strappy clutches in white, black and rosewood complimented the collection’s light feeling. Squishy supple leather handbags brought a smile to Alexa Chung matching her smilley nails decoration. All in all, Hannah delivered a sharp, crisp, sophisticated collection that is her best to date and which beautifully exemplified the youthful Chloé spirit.

I didn’t think all that white would look cute but the soft feminine sportswear undertones actually make me love the collection
