Wednesday January 25, 2011 – Place Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris

To celebrate the launch of KARL at Net-A-Porter.com, five pop-up Window Shops were unveiled around the globe in Paris, New York, London, Berlin and Sydney. Alongside the launch activity at the pop-up window shops, the celebrations continued in Place Saint-Germain-des-Pres, Paris where a mysterious cube that appeared on Friday January 20 was officially opened by Karl Lagerfeld at 4.30pm Paris time today.

Waiting for Karl, fan of all age, including teenage girls so happy to meet the iconic designer. Natalie Massenet, NAP founder, Alison Loehnis, Managing Director and Holli Rogers, Fashion Director were also present, all sporting a “Team Karl” jacket and an Apple iPad 2, guiding parisians to have them wins the Karl prices.

At the Window Shops, visitors used the NET-A-PORTER KARL app, powered by Aurasma, to scan, shop and win pieces from the collection. In addition, visitors to the window shops and cube received exclusive KARL goodie bags and t-shirts, with the first fifty receiving a pair of iconic KARL leather gloves or a collar from the collection.

Traditional shapes are shaken up in this collection while keeping a functional aspect. A sleeveless leather jacket is contrasted by the fluidity of a dress adorned with zippers. The essential white shirt, twisted with a double-bib front in black coated cotton and shirts that reveal layered swimmer-back cuts. Bringing in an element of sportswear, some pieces include vinyl sleeves, athletic-inspired shorts and rubber patches stamped with Karl’s logo, reminiscent of a boxer’s belt. Also featured are shorts in heavy cotton with a buttoned fly and zippers on the thighs, as well as black wool pants with tuxedo stripes. With an appreciation of all things feminine, the collection also has sensual drapings on t-shirt dresses in metallic-silk or cotton jersey, leather skirts, round-collar silk blouses, plunging zippered necklines on the back of short dresses, detachable collars, sequined skirts and dresses.

The products are made to be collected and worn together for the perfect KARL look. Prices for the collection ranges from $50 for a canvas bag embellished with a cameo of the unmistakable profile of Karl Lagerfeld to over $1,000 for some of the signature leather pieces.
