Tuesday March 5th, 2013 – Grand Palais
Another Chanel collection, another surprising set has been created in the heart of the Grand Palais. A giant rotating gray and black globe, twenty meters in diameter, with 300 Chanel logo flags lit up by 50 000 lights indicating the location of all the Chanel stores selling ready to wear around the world.
Karl Lagerfeld is celebrating his 30th anniversary as Chanel’s designer, 30 years of reinventing the brand around one of the most iconic logo on earth. In front of this monumental rotating sphere, Lagerfeld teleported the luxury house to the future, mixing medieval and space.
Fur helmets, rounded sleeves and shoulders, wrought iron quilted bag handle, studded gloves, necklaces gorgets, and even neo-cowboy boots featuring the Chanel silver chains and logo. Raw and dark finishes, quilted jackets, decorated with faceplates and curly wool tassets, the last looks carried a minaudière globe shaped.
The ability of KL to create another collection every two month is impressive, when asked by a reporter on how he does it, the designer simply said:
“I have the constant obsession to break and reinvent Chanel, the only thing I can not do is the classic Chanel”
