Tommy Hilfiger Spring Summer 2011 Collection

Sunday September 12th, 2010 – Lincoln Center – The Theater

Tommy Hilfiger sent nostalgic hearts aflutter with a prep meets pop Spring 2011 collection that pays tribute to its formula for success : Americana luxe-cool.
A paved street lined with faux grass served as a kitschy reference to Hampton weekends and tennis matches at the local country club; a reminder that such things do still exist in today’s society. Flanking that grass were a motley crew of celebs including Jennifer Lopez, Chace Crawford, Kristen Bell, Lenny Kravitz and more than can fit on this page. Taking over the largest venue at the tents wasn’t enough to hold all of Tommy’s fans under one roof, though a livestream of the show on FaceBook made those that couldn’t make it feel like they were budding elbows with the front row.

Few designers know how to pull off the juxtaposition of strong contrasting colors better than Tommy does; a blue oxford shirt with opposing hues shows the brand’s DNA is infused in every seam. Periwinkle and mint green tones served as canvases for the designer’s love of strong reds here and there. Separates such as textured trousers, silk tissue shirts, pleated skirts, washed cotton chinos and navy pointelle tanks showed that there’s more than one way to work Tommy into your personal style. The use of outerwear pieces such as barracuda jackets, black cotton trench coats, and blazers reminded us that layering doesn’t end when leaves start start sprouting. The show ended with Noah Mills strutting down that catwalk in a Casablanca white cotton tuxedo followed by Karlie Kloss in a stunning white georgette gown.

Backstage was short to say the least given that Tommy announced to everyone that they were invited to his 25th Anniversary party next door.
